All doctoral researchers of the HITEC member institutes at Forschungszentrum Jülich are automatically members of the HITEC Graduate School. HITEC offers a basic training program based on a modular concept of scientific and professional training courses. Doctoral researchers can choose from a variety of HITEC events on specific topics, methods and transferable skills. In addition, there are various training opportunities, such as a research stay at an institute abroad or professional career courses, etc. Through the courses, HITEC members will meet other HITEC doctoral researchers, become part of a wider community and build their own network of peers. Doctoral researchers are encouraged to position their research within a global, application-oriented context. This is facilitated through visits to external mentors at leading international research institutions or industry settings, and by presenting their work at international conferences.
The HITEC Program
HITEC is committed to scientific excellence, an interdisciplinary and international research environment, an accepting learning environment that embraces diversity, and aims to train the experts needed for the transformation of the energy system. HITEC offers a carefully designed curriculum, including transferable skills courses and professional training, as well as a variety of optional elements, with networking and interdisciplinarity as key objectives.
Doctoral researchers at Forschungszentrum Jülich are also supported by the Jülich Center for Doctoral Researchers and Supervisors (JuDocS). JuDocS provides onboarding, more qualification opportunities, project monitoring, and counselling thus aiming to foster high quality standards for all doctoral projects at Forschungszentrum Jülich and to facilitate the productivity of doctoral researchers and supervisors.
Doctoral researchers who successfully complete the HITEC program receive a HITEC Certificate, which provides a record of the skills and achievements gained during their PhD, complementing the awarding of the doctoral degree by the respective university.
