Forschungszentrum Jülich and its Graduate School HITEC are members of the Helmholtz Association, the largest German research organization. The Helmholtz Association supported the establishment of HITEC from 2011 to 2017 with funding from its Initiative and Networking Fund. Helmholtz research seeks answers to the big questions of the future and aims to provide society with solutions to the challenges of the modern world. The organization pools its expertise in special research programmes, with scientists from different Helmholtz centres working together on interdisciplinary projects.
HITEC research in energy and climate is interdisciplinary and international
HITEC covers the fields of energy and climate research for a sustainable future. The grand challenge - how can society be supplied with energy on a global scale – can only be answered if we develop environmentally friendly renewable energy concepts, i.e. if we succeed in using fossil fuels more efficiently in the future, in refining stationary storage technologies, in tapping completely new energy sources, and in increasing the proportion of renewable energies in the energy mix.

Green power for
tomorrow
Sun, wind, and water instead of coal and oil: what could a sustainable energy system that relies on renewable energy look like? Jülich scientists show how the climate transition can be improved, sped up, and made more economical.
Research at Helmholtz
Forschungszentrum Jülich contributes its outstanding expertise to ten programmes from four Helmholtz research fields. With cutting-edge research in its strategic priority areas – energy, information, and the bioeconomy – Forschunsgzentrum Jülich makes a fundamental contribution within the Helmholtz Association.
